Welcome to www.FMFmontreal.org
What is FMF Montreal?
After being diagnosed with a rare auto-inflammatory genetic disease called Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF) in March 2006, I did what many people do after receiving a diagnosis… I searched for any bit of information I could find about my disease. I soon discovered wonderful online resources including the latest research findings on FMF as well as online support groups. This process of discovery not only helped me develop a better understanding of my disease, but also helped me come to terms with it. A desire to help others access local FMF genetic testing services and online resources led to the creation of the FMF Montreal project.
FMF Montreal is an initiative in collaboration with local medical genetics services with a three-fold purpose:
- To facilitate access to information, diagnosis, treatment, and support for people who are affected by Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF)
- To increase awareness about FMF in communities most commonly affected by it, primarily of Mediterranean origin
- To further the medical community’s understanding of FMF with respect to symptoms presentation, diagnosis, and patient care
Whether you are a medical professional, a person affected by FMF or simply interested in learning more about it, I hope this website will be a helpful resource.
Sincerely,
Joelle Elbaz
